Guest Complaints

It’s not just the employees that know Medieval Times sucks! Guests have been noticing the poor treatment of both the animals and the staff for years, and have made those feelings known. Check out a small sampling of the many, many reviews left by dissatisfied guests below.

"The horses looked extremely strained and in terror of the small whips they used to have them do their stunts, etc."

Cody Simpson, Google Review 2019

"During the show the queen's horse threw her off. She was visibly hurt. But the show went on!"

Melissa F., Yelp Review 2021

"...It was very obvious 90% of their horses were traumatized and depressed. It was a hard scene to observe..."

They suck for trampling on the rights of their workers, treating their employees as subhuman, and also for the rampant animal abuse that happens at their castles. Leaving horses unsupervised in cross-ties is a leading way to come back to a dead horse. I’ve also witnessed Medieval Times stable hands throwing things (curry combs, hay flakes, etc) at the horses. In full view of audiences, thanks to the glass windows on the stalls.

You’d think if the audience can see everything you’re doing, you’d treat people and animals better. Not the case. Medieval Times values money over the lives of their cast members, as well as the lives of their animal performers.

Hey Medieval Times. Pay your cast members a living wage. Stop abusing your animals.

Loved going to Medieval Times in the past. Will NEVER set foot in one again - likely ever, but at the very least, certainly not while you’re refusing to negotiate with the people who made you what you are. Learn some human decency.

Well. I went with my family for a birthday event that I didn’t pay for or drive to in my own. I honestly would’ve left if it weren’t for the fact that I was about 70 miles from home with no way there. It was unfortunate being handed a piece of paper, listing the things happening inside. The first thing was animal abuse. You could definitely tell these horses weren’t happy and it definitely ruined it, like a lot. You can see it ITS SO OBVIOUS. It’s honestly disgusting this hasn’t been handled legally yet. The horses are foaming at the mouth the entire show, kicking, visibly girthing the reigns, it’s rough to watch. On top of that I could audibly hear one of the people whopping the horse and I just know that all isn’t necessary. Well trained horses really really shouldn’t be doing this. It was sad. I then go into this website and see horrific stories from employees bout how they are treated, how the horses are treated, ESPECIALLY at Buena Park.. wow. I’m astounded and I apologize for even stepping foot in there honestly.

Not working with unionized employees and utilizing scab labor to continue operation rather than working with your employees is down right criminal.

The food was bland. We asked the waitress for hot sauce. She said there wasn’t anymore and that she’d check downstairs. We also asked for salt but she brought it over an hour later. The show left MUCH to be desired. The different knights were introduced about eight times throughout the show like they were trying to just kill time. The whole experience was very disappointing and unfortunately a waste of money. Also throughout the entire show employees are walking around trying to sell you things. Besides the price of the tickets you must pay an additional cost for tax and fees. It was $60 for our group. The horses seemed stressed. We felt bad for them and guilty for even sitting there and watching it. Don’t waste your time or money. Oh and they suggest you arrive an hour early just to stand in a very long line outside before letting anyone in right a showtime.

The employees were wonderful, but the second the horses came out drooling, clearly drugged up so that the crazy noises wouldn't bother them, any fun I was having dissipated. It was hard to watch. The best parts were without the horses anyways, and I would say the horses had equal if not greater stage-time than the knights. There were other things that made the experience less than great, like pretty much only being money based shopping before the show, not being able to hear or follow the event, but the horses were definitely the worst part of this. I have never seen horses looking like that before.

The horses were foaming at the mouth because their bits were too tight, the show was so incredibly uncomfortable to watch the entire time. The whips were so unnecessary and the treatment was of the horses was neglectful as we were watching in real time. I was invited by someone as a guest and I regret going. If I wanted to eat dinner in a mucking stall I would have sooner. What is the appeal here?

Girlfriend at the time took me there for my birthday. Been wanting to go ever since I saw the Cable Guy movie as a child. My joy and hype for the event ended almost immediately upon entering the castle. Got there a half hour before the start time. But the doors didn't open for another hour. Then we spent an hour just walking around in a giant circle. None of the concession stands were open. The only thing that was open was was the stands that sold cheap toys. After an hour of that we finally get seated. Staff was nice enough but the food is absolutely terrible. Dry, no flavor, very small portions. Show starts and yes the story and acting is corny but it's entertaining enough. The absolute worse part was watching the horses. You can see they are visibly in pain, foaming at the mouth, do tricks like standing on their hind legs and jumping forward for about 20 feet, most of the time you can see the knights struggling to control the horses that obviously didn't want to be there or do anything. Very obvious they're abused and poorly taken care of. Just seeing that took me out of the whole event. The only remotely entertaining thing was the sword fights. And even then it was overly dramatic with every clash of the swords being followed by a shower of sparks...every single time they they hit each other. I honestly don't know how MT hasn't been shut down for OBVIOUS and blatant animal abuse.
